Why is vegan skincare so good for you ?

Remember when the vegan lifestyle was something only overly health-conscious people were obsessed about? Yea, not anymore.
Veganism has made its way into our lives in several forms, namely vegan skincare, as a solution to protect both our health and the planet. Discover the benefits of using vegan cosmetics and how to find the best ones out there.

What is vegan skincare?

Just as its name implies, vegan skincare refers to beauty products that do not contain any animal ingredients or by-products. Therefore, even traditional ingredients like beeswax, honey, carmine, lanolin, and animal-based collagen and keratin aren’t used. At all.1

According to PETA, a vegan product contains no animal ingredients. This means it’s free from ingredients made from animal fur, skin, bones or meat, and contains no egg or milk products.

For example, many skin cleansers contain stearic acid, which can be made from animal fatty acids. And many beauty products contain beeswax, an ingredient made by our friends, the bees.2

Is vegan skincare good for you?

If they’re free of ingredients of concern according to EWG, they absolutely are. When vegan cosmetics mostly rely on plant-based ingredients, they can provide your skin with bountiful vitamins and antioxidant properties only nature can offer.

The benefits of a vegan skincare ritual

  1. Gentler on your skin

We all know that our skin absorbs a significant amount of chemicals we encounter every day.3> So why add more by lathering your body with the wrong beauty products? When a vegan skincare routine includes EWG VERIFIED™ products, it contains fewer ingredients of concern that could irritate the skin, aggravate any current skin conditions, and even cause harm to other parts of your body. However, just because something is vegan, it doesn’t mean you can’t be allergic to it. If you have especially sensitive skin, make sure you opt for hypoallergenic vegan care.

  2. Animal-approved

Because they don’t use animal ingredients or by-products, vegan cosmetics tend to be better for wildlife. They’re also unlikely to have been tested on animals, but you should always make sure the vegan skincare you choose also bears the cruelty-free logo. This way, you are guaranteed no animals were involved in the creation or the testing of your favourite beauty products.

  3. Rich in vitamins and antioxidants

Did your parents always tell you to eat your veggies? Well, that’s because plant-based foods often have a plethora of nutritious goodness to offer, and it’s the same with plant-based skincare.

  4. Kinder to the planet

The goal is always to protect our beautiful planet, and brands that offer vegan skincare tend to want that as much as you do. In fact, researchers at Oxford University said veganism is the single biggest way to improve your environmental impact, reducing your food carbon’s footprint by up to 73%.4 Because they use less harsh chemicals and help fight against deforestation due to the clear-cutting of trees to make room for animal grazing fields, vegan cosmetics are the most eco-conscious beauty product choice one can make.

How to find vegan skincare

With so many claims out there, how can you be sure a product is vegan? It’s mostly about being careful as to not confuse this with other labels on products that could contain animal-derived.

  • Cruelty-free – This means the product has not been tested on animals, but it can still contain animal-derived substances.
  • Organic – The product was grown without the use of pesticides, synthetic fertilizers, or any genetically modified organisms.
  • Natural - The product does not contain anything artificial or synthetic.

To find 100% cruelty-free and vegan cosmetics, search the PETA database that contains more than 5,900 companies that don’t test on animals. ALL ATTITUDE products are cruelty-free, which is why they feature the PETA Beauty without Bunnies logo. Plus, our home and body care products are 100% vegan!

Next time you shop or use one of your favourite products, look out for the PETA Beauty without Bunnies logo.

It’s the only way you can be sure:

  • the entire brand (not only individual products) is cruelty-free
  • the ingredients are not tested on animals
  • the products do not contain any animal-derived raw materials (including honey and beeswax)
  • the products are not tested on animals in foreign markets (such as China)
